Senator Cherargei Says Wanjigi Is Being Victimized For Supporting Kalonzo

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei claims billionaire businessman and August presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi’s dramatic arrest on Tuesday is due to his endorsement of Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka. According to the senator, Wanjigi’s remarks at Kalonzo’s forum in his Yatta farm over the weekend, where he trashed Raila as a dictator and termed the Wiper leader a hero, are the source of his woes.

When Wnajigi attended Kalonzo Musyoka’s Ukambani Forum in Yatta and accused the former Prime Minister of betrayal, saying he is likely to support Kalonzo for presidency, his woes began there,” Cherargei told Citizen TV on Thursday’s Day Break show.

Some of us are victims of State persecution. So when you look at that video and three days later Wanjigi was being bludgeoned, I was shocked, it was as if they were in Afghanistan,” he added.

The senator faulted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for the manner it orchestrated the businessman’s arrest, terming it uncivil.

For heaven’s sake, if DCI wants to summon me, they just need to tell me: Appear at our headquarters. You are a person of interest and we need you to write a statement, that is how civil societies operate,” stated Cherargei.

You find DCI bludgeoning an office somewhere in Westlands but it cannot tell us who is killing the Kenyans being dumped in River Yala.”

Cherargei further argued that the George Kinoti-led agency, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commision were being used by the State to victimize people like Wanjigi.

It means the the three bodies have been weaponized to fight political wars and do political persecution,” said the senator.

Wanjigi was dramatically arrested on Tuesday after a day-long standoff at his offices where detectives had to break into one of the buildings at his offices where he had reportedly locked himself up.

He was locked up at Kamukunji Police Station and presented in court Wednesday morning but did not take a plea.

He was set free by the court on Wednesday on grounds of conservatory orders issued on Tuesday by the High Court barring police from apprehending the businessman and his wife.

Addressing journalists at the Kamukunji Police Station on Tuesday following his arrest, Wanjigi dismissed claims that he was part of a racket that conspired to forge the title deed of the land, claiming he was only apprehended in an attempt to derail his 2022 presidential bid.

It has nothing to do with the property just like the guns a few years ago. It is clearly just a persecution. These are lies about crimes we know nothing about,” said Wanjigi.
